Wrestler Rajiv Tomar lost his 120kg freestyle qualification round bout in Beijing Olympics on Thursday. Tomar lost to Steve Mocco of the United States at the Chinese Agricultural University Gymnasium.
Rajiv Tomar became the third Indian grappler to qualify for the Beijing Olympics during a qualification tournament in Martigny, Switzerland. The Indian won silver in the 120 kg freestyle category in the event, held from April 18 to 20, and joined two other compatriots in the quadrennial mega extravaganza, a Wrestling Federation of India statement said.
Superintendent of Police Neeraj Kumar Jadaun confirmed the incident on Wednesday and said the condition of Rajiv Tomar (40), who ran a shoe-shop, is serious.
The four dope-tainted wrestlers who were earlier named in the Commonwealth Games squad only to be replaced later will not be taken back even after the provisional suspension on them was lifted by NADA Disciplinary Panel, Wrestling Federation of India said on Monday.
A long sabbatical and a rejig in weight categories notwithstanding, Olympic heroes Sushil Kumar and Yogeshwar Dutt reaffirmed their dominance on the world stage and ended a 28-year gold drought at the Asian Games in a successful 2014.
