An email threatening to target the cave shrine of Vaishno Devi was purportedly sent by the banned terror outfit Lashker-e-Toiba to a hotelier in Katra to avenge the execution of 26/11 terror attack convict Ajmal Kasab, the police said on Monday.

Two Lashker-e-Toiba militants were killed in a gunbattle in Doda district, official sources said on Sunday. On a tip off, army troops and police launched a search operation in Bikhrain area of the district on Saturday evening. During the operation, a gunbattle took place between the militants and troops in which both the ultras were killed. The slain militants have been identified as Altaf Hussain and Irshad Ahmed.

A self-styled section commander of the Lashker-e-Toiba outfit was gunned down by security personnel in an encounter in Doda district on Saturday. A group of militants opened fire on the troops of Rashtriya Rifles, who were conducting search operations in Phulel area of the Doda district on Friday night, leading to a gunbattle in which the LeT operative was shot dead, defence sources said.The slain militant has been identified as Tauhid Ahmed.
