The Congress on Friday declared a list of 51 candidates for the forthcoming elections to the 70-member Uttarakhand assembly. Harak Singh Rawat will be the Congress candidate from Rudraprayag seat while others in the fray include Jodh Singh Gunsola (Mussorie), Rajpal Singh Kharola (Rishikesh) and Satpal Brahmachari from Hardwar.

Over 100 members of the Jamia Teachers' Solidarity Group staged a protest in front of the Special Cell of the Anti-Terrorist Squad of the Delhi Police on Wednesday morning, demanding action against police officers who had arrested two innocent Kashmiri youths on terror charges in 2006. The Central Bureau of Investigation, which probed the case, had found both Irshad Ali and Mohammed Moarif Qamar innocent. The duo had been booked on terror charges by the Delhi ATS in 2006.

Fourteen people, including a member of Legislative Assembly and two former MPs, were on Monday sentenced to 10 years in jail by a fast track court in a case related to an attack on Sitamarhi collectorate and subsequent police firing in which five persons were killed in 1998. Another convict was sentenced to five years in prison.
