Government should provide a level playing field to domestic manufacturers by making customs duty @ 10 per cent, CVD @ NIL and SAD @ 4 per cent on all categories of power projects including power generation, transmission and distribution projects in line with other infrastructure projects like roads, airports, ports, railways, transport terminals, bridges, tunnels and dams.
The government will set up expert groups to explore the adoption of common chargers for mobile and all portable electronic devices, and submit a detailed report in two months, Consumer Affairs secretary Rohit Kumar Singh said. The department of consumer affairs on Wednesday called a meeting with industry stakeholders. After the meeting, Singh said India can initially think of exploring shifting to two types of chargers, including a C-Type port.

IEEMA welcomes the continuation of reforms, abolition of the fringe benefit tax and proposed introduction of GST on April 1, 2010.

Assocham president Niranjan Hiranandani said his talks with government officials showed dues to industry and states were pending in the form of refunds of income tax, value-added tax, and GST, and compensation, payments to discoms in the power sector, fertiliser subsidies, etc.
The government is currently holding consultations with all stakeholders including state governments, local bodies and those keen on developing smart cities.
