The guard of a goods train had told the Railway Control Room that he had heard an 'explosion-like sound' when the train was between Gidni and Jhargram stations following which the railways suspended services. An Railway Protection Force party along with bomb squad personnel travelled to the spot to ascertain whether any explosion had occurred but found no such thing, sources said.
Passengers of the New Delhi-Puri Purushottam Express had a narrow escape in the wee hours of Wednesday, as suspected Maoists removed the connectors between two tracks on a 400-metre stretch near Gidni station in West Bengal just before the train was to cross the area.
Armed Maoists on Sunday hijacked a passenger train on the West Bengal-Jharkhand border and threatened to blow it up, but later abandoned it and made off with two rifles and a walkie-talkie.
