Karun Chandhok came all the way from the rear of the grid only to finish seventh, just outside the points, in the GP2 race on Sunday.
French driver Nicolas LaPierre won both races in the Australian round of the A1 Grand Prix series.
The Indian ace was given the honour after Carlin's top driver Alan van der Merwe opted out.
