In a huge jolt to Indian men's hockey team captain Sardar Singh has been suspended for the semi-final match against New Zealand on Saturday following his yellow card for a dangerous slide tackle in pool A match against South Africa at the Commonwealth Games.

CWG chit-chat: Sardar reprimanded for 'inappropriate physical conduct'

The appeal jury held a hearing to consider Singh's latest disciplinary lapse, for which he was sent to the sin bin for 10 minutes.

He has already been reprimanded over an incident during India's match against Australia on Tuesday.

Sardar was deemed to have been guilty of "inappropriate physical conduct" after Australia's Eddie Ockenden was hit in the face.

Following a review by the appeal jury after India vs South Africa match on Thursday, the jury decided to suspend Sardar for two matches. That was later reduced to one game after India submitted a protest.

It is understood Bolt, who will take to the track on Friday night, played no part in the guards' dismissal.

The 27-year-old Jamaican, one of the most famous athletes on the planet, has been under the spotlight after reports emerged that he had described the Games as "a bit s***".

The Olympic champion angrily denied the accusations and later described the event as "awesome".

Bolt is due to run in the heats of 4x100m relay on Thursday night despite not having raced this season due to a foot injury.
