Champions Chelsea beat 9-man Arsenal 2-0 in a heated match at Stamford Bridge last week but a coffee brand had to bear the brunt of angry Arsenal supporters.

Wenger, Mourinho in war of words after ill-tempered match

Chelsea’s Diego Costa played central character as it was his tangling with their defence that most offended Arsenal.

Television replays showed the intimidating Brazil-born Spaniard pushing Laurent Koscielny in the face during tussles in the Arsenal penalty area and thus infuriated Arsenal fans with a typically bullish performance

Arsenal fans

One of the irrational reactions from Gunners fans was to start a campaign to avoid using the chain which shares part of its name with controversial Chelsea striker Diego Costa.

Some Arsenal supporters took to Twitter to urge others to join in their bizarre boycott of the Costa Coffee.

The tongue-in-cheek campaign, started by Arsenal podcast Our Lot in Block 5, said: "Join the #costaboycott. Buy your coffee at #starbucks or #pretamanger until Gabriel returns."

Costa Coffee

We’re not sure Costa Coffee should have been concerned about this but their response was duly issued on Twitter, “What a palaver! At least in the coffee game we're always up to scratch #BoycottCosta #GotTheWrongCosta”

Meanwhile, on the football front, Chelsea striker Costa and Arsenal's Paulista have both been charged by the Football Association after incidents in Saturday's bad-tempered Premier League derby at Stamford Bridge.

The FA said on its website that Costa had been charged with an alleged "act of violent conduct" after television replays showed him catching Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny with his arm in an incident not spotted at the time by the referee.
