Cristiano Ronaldo set to miss rest of the World Cup?

More

Cristiano Ronaldo’s World Cup campaign is likely to come to a premature halt.

According to reports, the Portuguese captain has been laid low with a knee injury and his further participation in the tournament is in doubt.

The Real Madrid forward withdrew from Portugal’s training session on Thursday. He sat on the sidelines with an ice-pack on his troublesome knee alongside the team’s physio after going through some drills with team-mates.

Accordingto ibtimes.co.uk, a Spanish newspaper, El Confidencial claims that Ronaldo's knee injury has returned with even greater severity despite the striker pulling out all the stops to play for his country at the World Cup, and there is also is also a risk of rupture.

The report also claims Ronaldo's future as a football player was in danger, as MRI scans showed he was far from being fit.

He played in the opening World Cup match against Germany, which Portugal lost 4-0, but he played against medical advice.

Reports also published statements from a doctor, who checked on Ronaldo’s knee.

The diagnosis of Dr. Noronha, a trusted doctor of Ronaldo's agent Jorge Mendes and a specialist in knee injuries, has been resounding: "If Ronaldo does not stop and rest, his future is in danger."
