On the fairways of the golf course in San Deigo, California, an Indian overshadowed names like Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh to swing his way into history.

Arjun AtwalArjun Atwal tied the USPGA Tour record of three eagles in a round, when he landed three of them in a space of five holes in the second round of the Buick Invitational on Saturday.

Atwal began his round at the easier North Course of Torrey Pines on number 10, and posted eagles on the par-five 14th hole, the par-four 16th hole and the par-five 18th hole.

He went on to shoot a five-under 67 to be seven-under and within five shots of the leader Brandt Jobe.

Atwal is tied fifth in a bunch of seven players that also includes his friend, Daniel Chopra, Sergio Garcia, Shigeyuki Maruyama.

Just as Atwal went on an eagle spree, Chopra went on a birdie spree and made good use of the scoring opportunity at the North Course with a six-under 66 and was at seven-under for 36 holes. Chopra had a one-under 71 on the first day.

Jobe handled the tough South Course with a five-under 67 on second day. He has a two-shot lead over Tim Clark and Jesper Parnevik. Clark (66) and Parnevik (67) were on the North Course, which played five shots easier.

The two courses at Torrey Pines golf course are very different from each other. The North Course is very easy and the South very tough.

The final two days will include defending champion Tiger Woods, who recovered from a rugged start to his year with a four-under 68 on the South Course, including a 60-foot eagle putt on the 13th.

Atwal started on the tenth and had a bogey on 12th, before he eagled the 14th, 16th and 18th holes. He had further birdies on fifth and ninth, but also dropped shots on the first and sixth.

Atwal is the 17th player in the PGA Tour history to have three eagles in a round and the first since Kevin Stadler at the 2005 Michelin Championship at Las Vegas.
