International gymnastic officials have brought a disciplinary suit against a Chinese judge for altering a score that helped his compatriot win gold at last year's Asian Games.

Judge Bin Shao, who was on the panel to evaluate the difficulty level of floor routines in the men's finals, was caught modifying the execution score for China's Zhang Chenglong without informing the head judge.

"Mr Bin committed this act upon his own initiative and with complete disregard for the rules in force," the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) said on Wednesday in a statement on its website (www.fig-gymnastics.com).

The FIG deemed Bin's behaviour "wholly unacceptable" and has decided to take "severe" action against him.

Zhang scored a total of 15.400 in the men's floor event, tying him for gold with South Korea's Kim Soo-Myun.

China's men won seven golds out of eight in the artistic gymnastics events at the Guangzhou Asian Games in November.
