Rain delayed the start of Wimbledon on Monday.

The grasscourt Grand Slam is expected to be badly disrupted with showers forecast for much of the opening week.

Former women's champion Martina Hingis [Images] was among the players whose first round matches were delayed by at least 90 minutes as drizzle fell over southwest London [Images].

Men's champion Roger Federer [Images] is scheduled to open Centre Court proceedings but organisers said play would not start until at least 1230 GMT (1800 IST).
