June 17, 2005 21:19 IST
India inflicted a heavy 8-2 defeat on Malaysia to claim the fifth spot in the six-nation KT Cup women's hockey tournament, won by England, in Seongnam, Korea.
It was India's second victory in the competition. Ironically, their first also came against the same side, when they won their opening encounter 7-1 on June 9.
Three back-to-back losses after that put them out of the race for a podium finish.
England claimed the title with an impressive 3-1 win over the hosts Korea.
England slammed home three goals in a seven-minute spell after the half-time and maintained their dominance till the end despite Korea edging a goal back later.
China took third place with an easy 5-2 win over Ireland.
