September 17, 2003 20:36 IST

The National Accreditation Board for Testing and Caliberation Laboratories has awarded the ISO 17025 certificate to the Dope Control Centre of the Sports Authority of India.

With the ISO rating the New Delhi lab has completed the basic requirement for seeking accreditation from the International Olympic Committee's Medical Commission, the SAI said in a statement on Wednesday

The lab, which got the ISO 9001 rating in December 2002, has now met all requirements for IOC accreditation.

SAI said it will now submit a formal application to the IOC Medical Commission and World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) to get the accreditation.

There are 30 IOC accredited labs in the world, of which five are in the Asia-Pacific region.
