ITI score first win

March 06, 2003 21:03 IST

Indian Telephone Industries, Bangalore, ended their string of defeats when they downed another local outfit Hindustan Aeronautics 3-1 in a National Football League match in Bangalore on Thursday.

With this victory ITI, who are facing the threat of relegation, caught up with HAL, on eight points from 18 engagements.

ITI, which hitherto put up a dismal show this season, scored twice late in the second session after both the teams were locked 1-1 at half-time.

Nickson scored a brace and Jude the other goal to put ITI on the victory path.

Raja Baliev Nurlan got the lone goal for the losers.

ITI went into the lead in the fourth minute when Jude's powerful shot landed into the net.

However, HAL struck in the 37th minute when Nurlon made no mistake in converting a pass from Santosh Kiran.

After the breather, both teams tried their best to increase their lead, but luck favoured ITI, when Nickson landed his powerful shot into the goal after intercepting a fine pass from Jiten Rai to make the score 2-1 in the 77th minute.

Nickson then consolidated in the 85th minute.
