Reliance Globalcom, the global arm of Anil Ambani-controlled Reliance Communications, will land its proposed next-generation network (NGN) submarine cable 'Hawk' at Cyprus-based PrimeTel's landing station.

This will help the telecommunications industry in Cyprus and the country's economy as the submarine cable will provide international connectivity, alternative routing and lower prices.

This will also help Cyprus improve teledensity and broadband connectivity apart from attracting overseas investments, according to an RCom release on Wednesday.

The Reliance Globalcom NGN system involves construction of four new systems across the Mediterranean, East Africa and the Asia-Pacific regions.

PrimeTel, a provider of fixed line and TV services, is building a submarine landing station at Yeroskipos in Cyprus by 2009.

It aims to gain access to new international cables and capacity and has secured 5 GBPS capacity globally with an option for further upgrade.
