The agreements were signed in presence of President Pratibha Patil and her Brazilian counterpart Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on the last day of her three-day state visit to Brazil.
The two countries agreed to extradite any person against whom an arrest warant is issued by a competent court for a crime, which is punishable in both the countries with an imprisonment for at least one year or a more severe punishment.
"In case of a financial or revenue-related crime, the extradition may take place even if the two countries do not have the same penalty for the crime," said the agreement which was signed by Minister of State for Non-Conventional Energy Vilasrao Muttemwar and Brazilian Foreign Minister Celso Amorin.
The other agreement was aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation and establishing an institutional cooperative relationship between the two countries on oil and natural gas development.
Besides these two, the two countries also signed memoranda of understanding in agriculture and allied sectors and in civil defence and humanitarian assistance. The pact on agriculture will open opportunities of cooperation between the two countries in production technologies and equipment, financing and micro-credit for small farmers, post-harvest management, agro and food processing and animal husbandry.
India and Brazil have already signed 37 agreements since Lula's visit to India in July 2004. Brazil is India's largest trading partner in Latin America.
