Targetting Non Resident Indians in the United States, Bharti Airtel on Thursday launched its 'CallHome' service at the price of 7.9 cents per minute.
Bharti Airtel claimed it is 40 per cent cheaper than the available tariff offered by Indian telecom operators who have similar service for the US-based NRIs.
"Bharti Airtel today announced its foray into the US market with a launch of Airtel Callhome service for the NRIs based there. The 2.5 million NRIs based in the United States will now be able to call their relatives back in India at rate of 7.9 cents a minute (Rs 3.52 per minute)," Bharti Airtel president Manoj Kohli said.
The users of the service will have to create a personal account and download the calling service online. It is currently available as a prepaid option.
