The police used tear gas and water cannons at India Gate as well to keep angry protesters from breaking down barricades and security cordons and moving towards Rashtrapati Bhawan. There were prohibitory orders in the area, but protesters have now been allowed in on foot till India Gate.

Venting their ire against the Delhi police, protestors expressed dismay over the latter baton charging them viciously as if they were militants.

"Police officials are beating us and women alike as if we are militants. We have been beaten up like this. They are beating children. Five policemen are after a single girl, beating them viciously. Are we militants," said Ravi, a protestor.

"It is not the correct way as how police are trying to stop the public and women, the government should not behave like this, if a girl has suffered and has been a victim of gang rape, then the culprits should be executed. Yesterday, Sushil Kumar Shinde says that it is the duty of police to think, Sheila Dikshit has brushed aside her responsibility and shifted it to the Delhi Police by saying that the police don''t come under her jurisdiction. They are playing the blame game, and by doing so, the government is raping the emotions of the country," said Neha, a protestor.
