PIX: Explosives recovered at Guwahati railway station

The Government Railway Police personnel on Wednesday recovered a huge quantity of high power explosives from a person travelling in a general coach of Delhi-bound North East Express at the Guwahati railway station.

Police informed that in a routine check, the GRP personnel recovered 12 high power gelatin sticks, 12 detonators, and fuse wires from a passenger of NE Express.

The person has been identified as Mantu Singh who has confessed that he was carrying the explosives to Bihar after procuring the same in Mizoram bordering Myanmar.

In view of the proposed visit of Congress President Sonia Gandhi to Guwahati on May 26, security measures have been tightened in the city and vigil has been mounted in all vital installations fearing attempt by the anti-talks faction of the United Liberation Front of Assam to strike terror.

The outfit has called for statewide bandh on May 26 to protest the visit of the Congress president.
