In a horrific incident, the memorial built for the victims of the disastrous Mangalore air crash was found desecrated by miscreants on Tuesday.

A memorial comprising black granite slabs with the names of the victims was erected at Kenjar near the Bajpe airpiort on July 22.

The memorial was unveiled Union Civil Aviation Secretary M M Nambiar.

The police, who are looking into the matter, say that they have not been able to nab the culprits yet.

As the memorial was desecrated by hurling stones, it appears, however, to be a random act of mischief, police sources said.

The district authorities have decided to set up a new memorial and will provide a protective shield this time around.

The wounds are still fresh
