Bharatiya Janata Party vice president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi has said that the resumption Bharat Suraksha Yatra started by party leader L K Advani and party president Rajnath Singh would depend upon the health of Pramod Mahajan, who was shot by his younger brother Pravin Mahajan at his Mumbai flat on Saturday morning.

Speaking to rediff.com on phone from Mumbai, Naqvi said that nothing could be said as yet about the future of the yatra as Mahajan's condition continued to be critical.

"We are anxious about his health, which has continued to be critical since morning. All senior party leaders are in Mumbai and a decision would be taken on the resumption of the Yatra only after the doctors announce Mahajan out of danger," he said.

Meanwhile, Uttaranchal Director General of Police Kanchan Choudhary Bhattacharya, in a conversation with rediff.com at her office in Dehradun, said her office had received information that Rajnath Singh would be flying to Pantnagar in the state directly from Mumbai on Sunday and then resume his Yatra from there.

"We are going by the information that we have received," she said. The state police has made elaborate security arrangements to provide protective cover to the BJP president, who would travel from Pantnagar in Kumon region to Dehradun and then start his Yatra from Shimla in Himachal Pradesh on April 27.

"But we are keeping our fingers crossed," said a senior BJP leader from New Delhi.
