The World Wildlife Fund has asked couples to plan 'green-weddings' to save the environment.
The WWF has a website, which advises couples on planning a green-wedding and things to remember when going in for the ceremony, including selecting eco-friendly receptions venues, flower arrangements and food caterers.
It has also asked couples to encourage guests to make donations to the organisation instead of giving traditional gifts.
"That will make the big day not only memorable but also environmentally friendly," it said. And an added attraction: Guests can download cards announcing their donations, which can be displayed at the reception
The 'Weddings and Celebrations Site and Registry' gift registry allows the couples to create a personalised web page and registry giving guests the option of donating to WWF's worldwide conservation programs in lieu of traditional wedding gifts.
Registry announcements can be emailed to guests with a personalised message from the couple and a link to their gift registry web page. Couples can also choose to make a donation to WWF in honor of their wedding guests as a party favour.
"Today's couples are aware of issues affecting the world around them and want to affect change," said Terry Macko, vice president of membership and partner marketing.
