Stating that people have the final say in a democracy, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday said her party Trinamool Congress would win next year's assembly election riding on the development work done in the last four years.

"In a democracy, people have the final say. Our record on development makes us confident that we will win again in 2016," Banerjee tweeted.

When asked about Banerjee's tweet, state Finance Minister Amit Mitra said, "It is better to ask her about the tweet. But she said that people have the last word. She said so because many developments had taken place, like rise in plan expenditure, capital expenditure, improvement in physical and social infrastructure."

"Thus she said that she is confident on the basis of work done in the state. This was based on evidence which had actually taken place on the ground. It is natural and logical," Mitra said.

Reacting to the tweet, Bharatiya Janata Party national secretary Siddharth Nath Singh said, "Banerjee's statement shows her nervousness as she knows very well that her government has not done anything in name of governance. The rise of BJP in Bengal is making her more nervous."

Communist Party of India-Marxist politburo member Md Selim said she was saying this due to her "lack of confidence".

"She knows the real picture of Bengal and she knows that none of her promises have been fulfilled. So she is not confident of coming back," he said.
