Bharatiya Janata Party, which is in the midst of the controversy over the release of a CD carrying inflammatory references to the Muslims, has now made a pun on Urdu word 'pak' (sacred) in its poll campaign in Aligarh to firm up its Hindutva vote bank.
Kya inka irada pak hai? (Are their intentions pure?) is the catch line of the saffron party's advertisement blitz in newspapers in the Muslim-dominated region of Uttar Pradesh.
Seeking to capture power in this key state, the party is trying to cash in on the issues of 'Vande Mataram,' 'Saraswati Vandana' and capital punishment given to 'terrorist Afzal' to drive home its point of 'Islamization of politics.'
The advertisement accuses the Union government led by Congress, the Bahujan Samaj Party and the Samajwadi Party of protecting separatist organisation like Students Islamic Movement of India and 'shamelessly appeasing the minority.'
Asked about the advertisement, BJP leader Kalyan Singh said, "There was nothing objectionable about it. Whatever we have stated in the ad is the truth, there is nothing objectionable about it. It is a conspiracy by our political rivals to have us derecognised as a party."
