Tightening the noose around those allegedly involved in the police and Provincial Armed Constabulary recruitment scam during the previous Samajwadi Party regime, the Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday constituted a new committee to probe the allegations of corruption and pressure in the appointments.

"The three-member committee, to be headed by Chief Secretary P K Mishra, will thoroughly probe the corruption charges and from where pressure was exerted in the recruitments," state's Cabinet Secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh said in Lucknow on Thursday.

Singh said that the new committee will also suggest the procedure to be adopted for making fresh recruitments in the Uttar Pradesh Police and the PAC.

He added that the work of the one-man enquiry committee, constituted to probe the alleged irregularities in the recruitment scam, was over.

The government decision assumes significance in view of the Mishra Committee's recommendations for narco analysis tests of certain officials and politicians to elicit more details on the alleged scam.

Mishra had created a flutter by saying that some of the women recruits were allegedly sexually exploited.
