The Railway Ministry has ordered a high-level inquiry into the alleged gangrape of a girl in Toofan Express in Jharkhand and will give compensation to the victim.

This was conveyed by Railway Minister Lalu Prasad to National Commission for Women member, Sushila Tiriya, who met him on Friday in connection with the rape incident.

"The Railway Ministry is ready to give compensation to the girl and has ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident," NCW Chairperson Girija Vyas told reporters on Saturday. "The railway minister gave us the assurance that security will be enhanced in trains."

All concerned railway officials who were on duty at the time of the incident have been suspended, the minister told the Commission. The girl, who was found in a semi-conscious condition in the Delhi-Howrah Toofan Express train, said in her complaint that two travelling ticket examiners and three vendors had allegedly raped her.

A travelling ticket examiner and a vendor were yesterday arrested in connection with the case.
