As the whole of Andhra Pradesh remains tense in the wake of mass protests against the Srikrishna Commission report, Congress leaders from Telangana are planning a mass resignation.
Telugu Desam Party leaders from region are also planning to resign from their legislature and parliamentary seats to pressurise the government to grant statehood status to Telangana. TDP leaders are meeting in Hyderabad to take a decision on the matter.
Congress MLAs and MPs, numbering nearly 70, will meet under the banner of the Telangana Saradhya Brindam and discuss how to carry forward the matter.
The leaders feel that their resignations will bring pressure on the government to begin the process for Telangana.
The Congress government in the state will face a major setback in case the MLAs decide to tender their resignations, as it would be reduced to a minority. The government is already in trouble following the Jagan episode and is expecting
Congress leaders from the rest of the state have refused to comment and would watch the developments closely. The chief minister too has not made an official comment over the MLAs from his party deciding to put in their papers.
Meanwhile, Hyderabad remained shut in the wake of the bandh call by pro-Telangana organisations. Security remains tight across the city, especially at Osmania University, which is the nerve centre of the agitation.
