Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee has been admitted to the Army Research and Referral Hospital in New Delhi with a bout of bronchopneumonia and is likely to be released on Friday.

Chatterjee, 79, was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday and his condition has improved significantly, sources in the
Speaker's office said.

He would be released very soon, most probably on Friday, they said.

Head of the Army Hospital Research and Referral Major General O P Mathew said the Speaker has been diagnosed with bronchopneumonia.

Bronchopneumonia is a type of pneumonia characterised by an inflammation of the lung generally associated with bronchitis.
