The resignation crisis in the Congress commenced on Wednesday, with six anti-Telangana ministers submitting their resignations to Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy.
All the ministers from the Seema-Andhra regions met separately with the chief minister, and expressed their disappointment over the decision to create a separate Telangana state. The ministers have tendered their resignations to the CM, which are yet to be accepted.
Talks are being held in New Delhi and Andhra Pradesh about this latest development.
Reddy, who has been coaxed by the high command to stay on as CM, told the ministers that he is pained at the decision as well. He said that he was as hurt as all of them and did not support the bifurcation of the state.
With Wednesday’s resignations, many more are on the cards, say sources. However, there is no threat for now to the government, as only ministers have resigned and not members of the Andhra Pradesh assembly.
