"Life imprisonment is not enough, Shahabuddin should be hanged till death," Kaushalya Devi told rediff.com over telephone on Tuesday in her reaction after the special Siwan court awarded the Rashtriya Janata Dal member of Parliament life sentence.

Happy and upbeat after the special court verdict, Kaushalya Devi said, "I am really happy, I will celebrate Holi and Diwali to share the sentiments with local people."
Additional district and sessions judge Gyaneshwar Prasad Srivastava on Tuesday awarded life imprisonment to Shahabuddin, three days after he was convicted in a case pertaining to the kidnapping of a Communist Party of India-Marxist Leninist worker eight years ago. The court also pronounced a fine of Rs 1,000 on him.

She said Shahabuddin should be hanged for killing her son and dozens of innocent people in Siwan. "I appeal to the court to award him the death sentence because he deserves it," Kaushalya Devi said.
Kaushalya Devi was the first witness in the case of attack on the CPI-ML office and assaulting the party workers, in which Shahabuddin was convicted and sentenced to two years' imprisonment by a special court in Siwan in March 2007.
After her son Chandrasekhar was killed, allegedly by Shahabuddin's henchmen in 1997, Kaushalya Devi has not celebrated Holi. "I want to play Holi to mark my happiness this year, if my health permits I will make it," she said.
She said she will meet Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to thank him for the speedy trial of Shahabuddin that has resulted in his conviction.
"I will also made a formal appeal to Nitish Kumar to speed up the investigation into my son's killing," she said. Shahabuddin is the prime accused in the killing of her son.
Shahabuddin has over 30 cases, including those of murder, attempt to murder, possession of illegal arms of foreign make, unaccounted foreign currency and violation of Wildlife Act, pending against him.
Chargesheets have been filed in all these cases.
