Parliament standoff: PM, Vajpayee meet

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his predecessor Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Saturday met at a public function and interacted briefly.

It was not immediately known what they discussed and whether the ongoing impasse in Parliament between the government and the Vajpayee-led National Democratic Alliance figured.

The two sides in the last few days have engaged in a

war of words blaming each other for the stalemate.

Vajpayee, who arrived earlier for the function, shook hands with the prime minister on his arrival to inaugurate the Lal Bahadur Shastri Memorial.

At the end of the function, they again shook hands and exchanged a few words after which Vajpayee left the venue and
the prime minister went into the memorial.
