In an effort to push its demand for creation of a separate "homeland" for Kashmiri Pandits in the Valley by undertaking reorganisation of the state, a frontline organisation of the community plans to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh soon.
Panun Kashmir also welcomed recent utterances by new Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, especially with regard to terrorism, and said it expected him to implement what he has talked about.
"We have sought an appointment with the prime minister for January and we expect to get it," PK chairman Ajay Chrungoo told reporters in New Delhi Tuesday.
He said the organisation, during the meeting with the prime minister, will present its demand for reorganisation of the state to create a separate "homeland" for the community.
"There can be no solution to the Jammu and Kashmir issue till the minority community (Pandits) is involved," he said.
Chrungoo said all the governments at the Centre have been "insensitive" to Pandits and the community had hopes from the new dispensation.
Referring to the change of guard in Jammu and Kashmir recently, he said the new chief minister has been making right noises, particularly with regard to terrorism.
"He (Azad) has talked about realistic policies and national interest. We hope he will be able to fulfil his promises. We will be watching keenly," Chrungoo said.
PK vice chairperson Shakti Bhan said members of the displaced community were living in unhygienic conditions and appealed to the prime minister to intervene on humanitarian grounds for provision of better living arrangements.
