One of the richest men in Karnataka, former minister and mining baron G Janardhan Reddy, who was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation earlier in the day over his alleged role in the illegal mining scam, will spend the first night at his cell as an ordinary prisoner.

Reddy, who will file a bail plea before the CBI court on Tuesday, is currently lodged in the Chanchalguda prison in Hyderabad.

While no special amenities have been granted to him, Reddy has been kept in the additional cell due to security concerns taking into view his high profile nature.

His first night in prison was, however, not short of a small incident when he refused to eat the food that was given to him.

The jail authorities tried to serve him the regular dal and chapathi, but Reddy refused to eat it, saying that he had a packet of biscuits and was content with it.

The jail authorities however did not object nor did they make a fuss about it.

Janardhan Reddy is not alone and has for company the managing director of the Obulapuram Mining Company, Srinivas Reddy, who is also lodged in the same cell in the additional block of the Chanchalguda jail.

Srinivas Reddy too refused to eat the food served by the jail authorities and was content with the biscuits that some 'well wishers' had got them.

Reddy has been remanded in judicial custody for the next 14 days after he was produced before the CBI court on Monday.

While the CBI sought his remand, Reddy opposed the same.

Meanwhile, the CBI will continue arguments on Wednesday regarding seeking of police custody of Reddy for interrogation.

Reddy, who is used to a lavish lifestyle surrounded by choppers and fancy cars, and owns a palatial bungalow in Bellary, will have to spend the night like any other prisoner.

The Chanchanguda prison houses all sorts of criminals including the accused in the Mecca Masjid and Hyderabad twin blast cases.
