Nikhil Kumar Singh, former Delhi police commissioner and member of the Lok Sabha, has said that the government should further probe the links of Abdul Patel, the 17-year-old of Indian origin -- who was arrested by the British police for his alleged links with the terror plot to blow up aircraft bound for the US. Twenty two persons were arrested from Karachi and different places in Britain. Most of them are Pakistanis.

According to British police, Abdul Patel has links with Al Queda.

"This is something that is yet to be confirmed. Abdul Patel is a British national and it was for them to have alerted the Indian police about his possible connections. Now that the intelligence agencies have the information with them they should further probe about his connections with Al Queda," Singh told rediff.com.

He said that the Delhi police has done commendable work in recent years and has brought down the number of terrorist incidents in the capital substantially.

"The main threat comes from growing incidents of suicide bombers. I must compliment the Delhi police for their exceptional work," he said. Meanwhile the Delhi police has enhanced its vigil and deployed over 10,000 officers and men to deal with the terrorist threat on Independence Day.

Red Fort would be virtually out of bounds from four in the morning on Tuesday till 9 am, till an hour after Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh addresses the nation from its ramparts.

Delhi police would also be using helicopters to keep an eye on rocket launchers that could be used by terrorists. All hotels and guest houses were also being checked.
