Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar stunned all in Patna when he threatened to quit after he was being criticised by the legislators of ruling National Democratic Alliance in recent days.
Upset and angry over levelling of charges against him and his government functioning by ruling MLAs, Nitish Kumar told the NDA MLAs at his official residence at 1 Anne Marg on Thursday night that he was ready to resign and quit.
"I do not have lust for this post .I can quit any time," Nitish Kumar reportedly told the NDA legislators, a senior JD (U) leader told rediff.com on Friday morning on condition of anonymity.
A meeting of the NDA MLAs was called to discuss the strategy to be adopted by treasury bench members during the four-day long monsoon session of state assembly that began on Thursday.
But soon after the meet started, NDA MLAs raised voices against CM NItish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi. The MLAs complaint that they had become objects of hate and neglect in Nitish raj.
It was followed by heated exchange and angry Nitish Kumar told them that he will not compromise on his style of functioning and good governance.
It was the senior BJP MLA Bhola Prasad Singh remarks that anger Nitish Kumar more than any thing else. Singh alleged that Nitish was behaving like a bureaucrat and not a politician. "You (Nitish) can be the chief secretary not the CM" Singh told Nitish Kumar, a senior JD (U) leader said.
Other NDA MLAs cited instances of ill-treatment of ruling MLAs by the police and government officials. An MLA said that a JD (U) MLA Poornmasi Ram Ram was pulled out of a salon at Bagaha and kept in jail for 36 hours. Some MLAs alleged that at least two MLAs -- Sashi Kumar Rai and Renu Devi -- were detained for daring to overtake an SPs vehicle.
Sources said that resentment among the BJP MLAs are more than the JD (U) MLAs because of delay in the cabinet expansion, the high-handedness of bureaucrats. A BJP MLA said that the state government is not running by the elected representative of people but by bureacrats. "We, the MLAs have no say in the government" BJP MLA said.
