New terror outfit takes to Facebook

Security agencies have alerted the home ministry about a new outfit called the Tehreek-e-Taliban Hindustan. This outfit has been floated on social networking sites using the slogan Ghazwa e Hind (destruction of India) something that was coined by al Qaeda commander, Ilyas Kashmiri.

Although security agencies have found nothing concrete about this outfit barring a Facebook page, they are still not taking things to chance. The home ministry is already looking into the activities of this outfit.

The page has 98 likes and claims that it is fighting for the destruction of India in order to liberate Kashmir.

“It clearly is styled on the lines of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan. It is still unclear as to who is running this and could well be a hoax account. There is nothing to suggest that this page is linked with the Indian Mujahideen and it appears a group of boys have created this page. While it is just a page, the message is fierce,” says an Intelligence Bureau official who is looking into the matter.

The initial probe would show that the page has been created by a couple of youth from Maharashtra.

“It has been created in India. Usually such accounts are created and the creators never operate it. People who log in and find this page are the ones who post comments, pictures and videos. The idea is keep the message alive and ensure that more youth come out,” he says.

Such pages have often gone viral, as a result of which some youths have even shown ambition to join a terror group, the officer points out. However such pages are not targeted at recruitments into the IM or the LeT. It is to spread the concept of lone wolf terrorism which has become rampant today,” he adds.

“Attacking through an organisation always leads to a trail. While the bigger attacks will be planned by dedicated outfits, the nuisance value will be created through lone wolves who very often motivate themselves by looking at such pages,” the officer says.
