Militants in the northeast are learning to dot their WWWs and cross their HTTPs at Shillong in their endeavour to become computer savvy.

A cadre of the Dima Halam Daogah, an Assam-based militant outfit, was arrested recently for taking a computer course, a senior police official said.

The leadership of militant outfits were sending their cadres to familiarise themselves in the field of Information Technology to cope with the changing times, with Shillong a favoured destination because of its road links with Mizoram,

Tripura, Assam and the porous border with Bangladesh, the official said.

Earlier, an arrested cadre of the United National Liberation Front also confessed to the Meghalaya police that he was in Shillong to pursue his studies.

The ultras avoided better-known institutions for fear of being noticed and the strict enrollment process and settled for lesser popular ones instead.

Outfits like the KYKL, NDFB, NLFT, NSCN (IM) besides the ULFA are known to be operating in the state.
