A day after the director of a private residential school in Bihar's Nalanda district was lynched by villagers in presence of the local police the state government has suspended the police officer in-charge of Nalanda police station on Monday.

Eight culprits have also been identified through video footage, police said.

Devender Prasad Sinha, director of the DPS school in Jagdishpur village in Nalanda was beaten to death by angry villagers on Sunday after bodies of two missing students of the hostel were found in a pond near the school.

Taking the incident seriously after family of lynched director blamed the local police for the shocking incident, Nalanda police station officer in charge Sunil Kumar Nirjhar was suspended on Monday by Nalanda superintendent of police Siddharth.

Additional Director General of Police headquarters Sunil Kumar told newspersons here that Patna range DIG Shalin will investigate into the barbaric incident.

“Patna range DIG will probe into this incident and action will be taken against culprits involved in it,” Kumar said.

However, Nalanda superintendent of police Siddharth said that at least eight people have been identified through video footage.

“An FIR has been lodged against villagers in this connection also,” he said.

Meanwhile, angry over the incident hundreds of people on Monday protested with Prasad’s body and blocked roads and railway track in Hilsa in Nalanda, demanding action against culprits and local administration, police said.

The family of the deceased director Prasad also demanded a CBI probe into the case.

Prasad’s daughter Sawarnlata has demanded a CBI probe into the incident.

“I have demanded chief minister Nitish Kumar to recommend a CBI probe into the death of my father because my father was lynched in presence of police officials who watched it as silent spectator,” she said.

All the private schools remained close on Monday in protest against the incident in Nalanda

According to police officials, roads and rail traffic were disrupted due to protest.
