With continuous rains in Madhya Pradesh for over a fortnight, the state recorded 11 per cent excess rainfall this monsoon season, according to Met sources. On an average, the state received 676 mm of rainfall from June one as compared to expected the 608.9 mm, as per the weekly report from Regional Meteorological Centre.

The east Madhya Pradesh with 20 districts is in perfect normal rainfall situation as it received 679.6 mm rains against an expected 679.1 mm.

The west Madhya Pradesh sub-division with 30 districts had about 22 per cent excess rains at 673.2 mm, as against expected 554.2 mm, Met sources said.

The state was facing 16 per cent deficient rainfall till the last week of July, but almost continuous and sometimes very heavy rains during the last three weeks changed the situation and brought the state in excess rain category.

The weekly Met rainfall report shows that despite excess rains in most parts of the state, some pockets were still deficient and a few districts had received below normal rainfall.

The four districts of the state with worst situation were Umaria with 37 per cent deficient rain, Barwani (32 per cent), Balaghat and Sagar (27 per cent of deficiency each).

While the four districts which received very heavy rainfall were Harda - 88 per cent, Betul (72 per cent), Hoshangabad (56 per cent) and Singrauli (47 per cent). Met sources said the low pressure area developed over the Bay of Bengal was likely to move towards the state soon and heavy to very heavy rainfall would lash east MP and would move later to the western parts.
