Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday visited an exhibition commemorating World War-I, in which at least 74,187 Indian soldiers died, and was briefed about the valour and sacrifices of martyred defence personnel.

Modi spent about 45 minutes at the World War-I Commemoration Exhibition here, army officials said.

"The prime minister was given a detailed briefing on the First World War (1914-1918), and the contribution and sacrifice of the Indian soldiers in the War," they said.

The three Services chiefs (Army, Navy and Air Force) were also present during the Prime Minister's visit, they added.

The period between 2014 and 2018 is being commemorated as the WW-I centenary.

The army has also created a replica of a World War-I bunker showcasing the living conditions of the soldiers then.
