In the wake of the haul of RDX in Haryana on Wednesday, the Centre has advised authorities in four metros, as well as Hyderabad and Bangalore, to remain on high alert, since there is a possibility of a terror strike strike during the festival season.
Acting on intelligence inputs, the Centre asked authorities in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad and Bangalore to remain on high alert to foil any possible terrorist design of attacking the cities in the run-up to, and during Diwali and other festivals, sources said on Friday.
The Centre has asked the police chiefs of these cities to intensify vigil and deploy additional forces in all sensitive locations, religious places, markets, airports, railway stations, bus terminals and other crowded places.
Over five kg of RDX was recovered from a car outside the Ambala Cantonment railway station Wednesday night by police, which claimed it had succeeded in foiling a terror strike, possibly in Delhi, ahead of Diwali. It also said the terror outfits like the Lashkar-e-Taybia and the Babbar Khalsa were behind the plot.
The explosives were recovered following inputs by intelligence agencies ten days ago that a consignment of explosives was headed to a north Indian metro.
