Holding six policemen responsible for harassment and detention of over 200 Indians, mostly IT professionals, in Kuala Lumpur in March, Malaysian authorities have said disciplinary action would be taken against them soon.
Six policemen, including senior officers, were found to have failed to adhere to procedures during a crackdown on alleged illegal immigrants in the Brickfields area on March 9, Inspector General of Police Norian Mai said on Monday.
After India lodged a strong protest with the Malaysian government, acting Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi directed police to act on the complaint.
Norian said a special board set up to investigate the incident has completed its probe and identified the six policemen who breached procedure.
The six are from the Brickfields District Police Headquarters, the Bernama news agency reported.
Norian, however, declined to name the policemen or identify their ranks.
"With the action against our (police) personnel, we hope the issue will come to an end," he said.
He did not specify the type of action the six policemen would face.
