A Laskhar-e-Tayiba militant nabbed on Tuesday was tasked with setting up a base in Delhi to carry out an attack and at least one of his associates is suspected to be hiding in Delhi, police said on Wednesday.

Police have launched a hunt for the man, who according to arrested LeT militant Mukhtiar Ahmed Khan was supposed to collect the explosives from him for carrying out strikes soon, a senior official said.

Interrogation of Khan has also revealed that the plot was hatched by Lashkar chief Abu-Al-Kama, the mastermind behind the deadly pre-Diwali blasts in 2005, who is operating from Pakistan.

According to sources, special cell sleuths have raided a hideout in Delhi on the basis of the information given by the arrested militant and recovered a SIM card, his Indian passport and some cash.

Senior police officials said the contents of the SIM card, including his phone call details are being examined as it has come to light that Khan had stayed in Delhi earlier this month.

"He had arrived in Delhi on May 31 and stayed at a temporary shelter here. His intention was to get familiarised with the city. He then left for Kashmir on May 8 and returned on Tuesday," Deputy Commissioner of Police Alok Kumar said.

Meanwhile, a Delhi court on Wednesday remanded Khan to seven-day police custody.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Seema Maini remanded 24-year-old Khan, a resident of Kupwara in Jammu and Kahsmir, to seven-day police custody to facilitate the Delhi police's special cell sleuths to carry forward the interrogation.
