Four suspected Lashkar-e-Tayiba militants, including two Pakistanis, detained by the Border Security Force at Petrapol on the India-Bangladesh border were questioned by intelligence officials on Monday to ascertain their identity and their motive for sneaking into India.
"The four men are still in BSF custody at Haridaspur and both state and central intelligence officials interrogated the LeT suspects there," a police source said.
"BSF intelligence personnel have been interrogating them almost throughout the day. We suspect the four are LeT militants," the source added.
A CID team went to North 24 Parganas district from Kolkata to interrogate the four men who were detained on Sunday, sources said.
A BSF patrol intercepted the men while they were sneaking in from across the Bangladesh border.
Of the four men, Mohammed Yunus and Abdullah Khan were believed to be Pakistani nationals, while Muzaffar Khan is stated to hail from Jammu and Kashmir. The fourth man, S Sheikh, is believed to be from Maharashtra, police said.
BSF officials said they had fake passports and some papers, which were seized by the border guards.
According to sources, the men will be handed over to police after interrogation.
