Maninder Pal Singh Kohli, prime suspect in the rape and murder of British teenager Hanna Foster, today said he wants to confess and "unburden his soul."

"I want to face all the circumstances (consequences) and punishment for the crime that I committed in the UK," he told reporters outside a court in Kharar, Punjab, which remanded him to judicial custody till August 14.

"I want to confess the crime which I committed in England. I have told the (Punjab) Police about the crime which I committed in England and also wherever I stayed thereafter in India (hiding from the police). I want to unburden my soul," he informed the court.

While Ropar superintendent of police (Detective) S S Grewal said "he is free to do so (get his confession recorded)," the court told Kohli to file an application

if he wants to record a confessional statement. He was unable to do that today as he was not represented by a counsel.

Kohli also said he would not oppose his extradition to England in connection with the Hannah Foster case and would "confess before the UK police, as well, his crime". Asked whether he was confessing his crime under any pressure, Kohli told reporters "there is no pressure on me".

Kohli had been sent to police custody till August 5 by the Court on July 28 after he was brought here in connection with the passport forgery case. Punjab Police, however, informed the court today that they did not require his custody any more since the investigations into the case were over.

Kohli had confessed to his crime in the Hanna Foster case before the media too on Wednesday.
