A Canadian-Indian couple married on Sunday in British Columbia after six guests died when a truck rammed the pre-wedding procession two days ago.

17 others, all Indo-Canadians, were injured in the incident that happened when members from bride's side were going to the groom's place Friday evening, near Abbotsford (British Columbia).

Abbotsford Police Sgt Amar Kingra said the group was participating in a traditional Indian wedding ceremony called Jaago, where mostly female members of the bride's family walk together from the house of a close family friend to the bride's residence.

About 30 people were on a farming dirt road which was not very well lit.

The police report said a 71-year-old man, also an Indo-Canadian, came up behind the group, on a pick-up truck and he rammed the group, pinning down several people resulting in the deaths of 6 people, including 2 babies.

Police say the man was interrogated and released as they discounted alcohol or drug to be the factor in the accident.

The group was very careful, as besides wearing ornamental lights, they also had a car tailing with flash lights on. That was an additional precaution but according to Sgt Kingra the group started walking before the car could take its position.
