Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur: Admission to PhD/Masters programmes

Applications are invited from Indian citizens for admission to the programmes listed below commencing July 2004

PhD and M Tech (Engineering): Aerospace, Biological Sciences, Bioengineering, Chemical, Civil, Computer Science, Engineering, Electrical, Industrial and Management Engineering (all areas of management), Materials, Metallurgical, Materials Science Programme, Mechanical Engineering

PhD (Sciences): Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics

PhD (Humanities & Social Sciences): Economics, English (Literature and Linguistics), Philosophy, Psychology, and Sociology

M Tech (Programs): Environmental Engineering &Management, Laser Technology, Materials Science

M Des (Program): Design

MSc (2-Year): Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics

MSc-PhD (Dual Degree): Physics

Minimum Qualifications:

PhD (Engineering): M Tech/ME/MSc (Engg) degree in the respective or allied area. Candidates with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology or Master's degree in Sciences in an allied area with exceptional academic record and possessing a valid GATE score may also apply.

PhD in Biological Sciences and Bioengineering: Candidates with MBBS, B Pharma, or M Pharma degree may also be considered.

Candidates with a Master's degree in Management are admitted in Industrial and Management Engineering.

PhD (Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences): MSc/MA degree in respective or allied area, with a valid GATE/UGC/CSIR score.

M Tech: B Tech/BE/BSc (Engg)/MSc in respective or allied area, with a valid GATE/UGC/CSIR score. B Tech graduates from IIT with an overall CGPA of 6.5 and a CGPA of 8.0 during the last two semesters in B Tech, may also apply without a GATE score. (But such candidates will not be entitled for Institute Assistantship if CGPA is below 8.0).

For M Tech in Biological Sciences and Bioengineering, candidates with MBBS, or a B Pharma degree may also be considered.

 

M Des: A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Design or Architecture with a valid GATE/CEED score.

Financial and general information

 

· Financial aid (assistantship/scholarship) provided for M Tech, PhD and MSc-PhD (dual degree) programmes.

· 50 percent tuition fee waiver for MSc (2 years)/MSc-PhD (dual degree) students after first semester

· Sponsored and part-time candidates are also considered for M Tech, M Des and PhD programmes.

· Sponsored candidates do not require GATE qualification

· Several attractive fellowships from Industries/DAE also available.

· There will be no admission to the Nuclear Engineering and Technology programme this July

Reservation: 15% for SC and 7.5% for ST and 3% for Physically Handicapped (with minimum 40% disability) in each program.

How to Apply: Application forms and information can be obtained personally or by sending a self-addressed stamped (Rs 25) cloth-lined envelope of 23 cm x 17 cm, clearly stating the programme applied for, from:
