A Forensic Science Laboratory team from Gandhinagar Wednesday visited the mass grave site in Lunavada village of Panchmahal district where skeletal remains of victims reportedly killed in Gujarat riots were unearthed by the victims' relatives and a NGO on Tuesday.
"A three-member team from the FSL is camping in Lunavada from the morning and will assist the police in collecting samples of the skeletal remains found at the site," FSL Director J M Vyas told PTI.
"The team consists of two assistant directors and a scientific officer," he said, adding that the team had visited and inspected the site. The team arrived at the site after Gujarat police had decided to conduct DNA tests of the skeletal remains. Vyas also said that the team would bring samples to the FSL after which DNA tests would be conducted to establish the identity of the bodies.

The local police also conducted a 'panchnama' at the site. According to the Director General of Gujarat Police, A K Bhargava, the remains belong to the 21 riot victims of Panderwada massacre who were buried by the local administration after conducting their post-mortems.
However, a Central Bureau of Investigation team, which has already arrived in Gujarat, is also expected to visit the site to ascertain whether the remains belong to the massacred victims whose bodies were yet to be recovered in the Bilkis Bano case.
