Great war on Telangana inevitable: TRS chief

Telangana Rashtra Samiti president K Chandrasekhar Rao on Friday asked the party's supporters, especially students, to be prepared for a 'great war' when the Srikrishna Committee submits its report.

"A great war will be inevitable after December. We have to keep our weapons sharp. Party leaders said they will enroll 10 lakh members. If these 10 lakh come on to the streets after December, can the government function," he said while addressing the party's student wing.

In a bid to mount pressure on the Centre for the creation of a separate Telangana, TRS will employ various 'democratic means' to bring the government machinery to a 'standstill', the former Union minister warned.

"We have to organise ourselves to realise our final goal of Telangana. Not only students, I am talking to various sections. They said they will be ready once we start the agitation," he said.

"They said no government employee will go to office, no advocate will go to court, drivers of public transport buses will not report for duty. Even cars of district collectors and police officers will not run. We can pile up pressure on the Centre that way," Rao asserted.

Seeking to corner the ruling Congress and main Opposition Telugu Desam ahead of the by-polls in Telangana, Rao hit out at the two major parties for their decision to contest the elections.

"Initially, they said they are ready to sacrifice their posts for the sake of Telangana. But they changed colours later. Only sincere Members of Legislative Assembly of the TRS and one each from the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Telugu Desam Party quit their posts. Now, they are out to defeat us in the by-polls. They should be ashamed of their complete political bankruptcy," he alleged.

"Only students have the power to teach a lesson to the traitors of Telangana," he stated.

The TRS chief asked the students to tour Telangana region to build up a strong organisation for the party. The student leaders should make an appeal to the youth in Telangana villages not to take extreme steps to show their commitment to the movement, he added.
